June's Birchbox Samples: Reviews

1. Davines Oi/Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion

I’m loving this! It’s perfect for those who live in Ohio (Ok, maybe not JUST Ohio) when the weather has about 100% of humidity every day! This “potion” has a very silky and smooth texture. It seems to have staying power too. Many frizz serums, I find, sort of run out of steam and within a few hours your hair is a frizz ball again.                                                                                                                         Personally, I have only used it on my hair when it’s dry. (I’m a bit scared to use these kinds of products on my hair when wet because when my hair dries I’m afraid I will have used too much and end up looking like a greaser!)

2. Youngblood Hi-Definition Hydrating Mineral Perfecting Powder

I’m not so sure what the purpose of this product is. It states that it’s good for a mid-day touch up to absorb oil. Honestly, I can’t say it did much to impress me. Also, from what I have been told by my aesthetician is that you shouldn’t put more powder on to absorb oil because it creates the tendency for break outs. It makes sense since you’re just adding more and more powder to your face which in turn will end up clogging pores. I think I’ll just stick to rice paper to absorb oil….sorry…but I’d save your money on this one.

3. Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser

First, let me just tell you….anything that has to do with lemons is at the absolute top of my list! This cleanser has lemon grass in it which gives it a fresh scent, therefore it rocks in the scent category! I have to be very careful with what I use on my ever so sensitive skin so I was afraid to try it. I just thought I’d let it sit on the counter so I could just hang out smelling it! However, I did give it a go. There was enough product to use it several times. You only need a very small amount. I felt like it cleaned my face well and did not make it feel dry or tight afterwards. The exfoliate part is sugar so it didn’t feel harsh on my skin. I guess I can say that it is a good choice even for those with sensitive skin since I didn’t get any break outs from it.

4. Davines LOVE Smoothing Shampoo

Mmmm! This shampoo has an absolutely addicting scent! I cannot even describe it! I get excited to use it when I wash my hair! Seriously. (Plus, it’s from Italy and if you’ve read any of my previous posts you know how I feel about Italy!) One thing I did notice when using this shampoo, your hair will feel kind of “nappy”  after you rinse it out so you really need to follow up with the conditioner. (Tangly may be a better term but I like the word “nappy”.) One note of caution…it does contain sulfate so it can fade color treated hair.

5. Davines LOVE Smoothing Conditioner

This conditioner is obviously a great follow-up to its shampoo. Although the shampoo alone left my hair feeling “nappy” this conditioner took excellent care of that. It also has a great scent just like it’s counterpart…that alone would make me purchase a full size of this. My hair felt very soft and had a ton of shine. (Another reason to purchase a full size.)

6. Color Club®Neon Nail Polish

Well, I’m not a big fan of NEON! I lived that in the 80’s….but I did sample this polish because I wanted to see if it was something worth telling others to buy. I applied this polish with a base coat but did not put a top coat on so that I could see how long it would last. (BTY, I used this on my toes and not my fingers.) I would say that the “staying on” power was pretty decent. It stayed on for about 10 days before it started chipping. Not bad, huh?
